The proposed Webinar Series illuminate the essential role of architectural education in shaping a sustainable and culturally responsive future for the continent. They emphasize the necessity of aligning architectural pedagogy with African values and economic realities, showcasing the incorporation of indigenous knowledge and skills. "Culturally Responsive Architectural Education: Bridging Western Pedagogy and African Values" This theme addresses the need to develop architectural education that respects African cultural values and heritage. The webinar can discuss how architectural programs can incorporate local traditions, building techniques, and cultural values into the curriculum. Participants can explore the benefits of this approach, such as better contextualized designs and a deeper connection between architects and the communities they serve.

ABOUT THE SPEAKERS / PROFILE DES INTERVENANTS Dr. Aimé GONCALVES was born on April 28, 1956 in Cotonou. He is a graduated architect from the InterState School of Architecture and Urban Planning (EAMAU) in Lomé. He has made several specializations, notably in conservation and management of historical and archaeological sites in Rome (Italy), in earthen architecture at CRATerre (Grenoble), in education and public action on the environment in Jerusalem (Israel), in environmental projects. habitat in developing countries in Marseille (France) where he also received training in urban forms and architecture. Mr GONCALVES has a doctorate in history, heritage preservation option, expert in Buildings and Public Works. From 1990 to 2006 he was president of the National Committee of the International Council on Monuments and Sites, an advisory body of UNESCO, an institution in which he was elected member of the World Executive Committee for six (6) years. In this capacity, he is involved in several urban projects, particularly on cultural sites or those included on the UNESCO world heritage list. He carried out the development of the archaeological site of Agongointo (Bohicon) as part of the construction of the AbomeyBohicon-Kétou road. On the educational level, Dr GONCALVES was director of studies and coordinator of the architecture sector at EAMAU. He was also the Chief Architect of Monuments and Historical Sites at the Ministry of Culture of Benin. In this context, the promotion of local materials has been at the center of its concerns, particularly through projects for the construction of economic and commercial infrastructure and projects for the rehabilitation of historic sites (archaeological sites of Ouessè and Agongointo). He has carried out several projects to restore cultural sites, notably those of the royal palaces of Abomey. He was a member of the national committee for the inclusion of the slave route on the UNESCO heritage list in 2010. 


Dr. Maria Panta, a faculty member at KNUST's Department of Architecture (Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology, Kumasi, Ghana) , holds a PhD (2018) in resilience and adaptation, funded by Canterbury School of Architecture, UK. She currently teaches the second-year design studio at KNUST, focusing on socially responsible cocoa farming practices for positive change in rural Ghana. Previously, at the German University in Cairo (GUC), Maria developed the Trans-African Dialogues module, fostering inclusive trans-African experiences in culture, heritage, education, practice, and research. Maria's collaborative work includes roles as Project Coordinator, Trainer, and Teacher for an ERASMUS + funded project on Adobe brick-making in Cyprus. She also managed a two-year RIBA and DfIDUK funded research project on 'Affordable Low-Carbon and Cyclone Resilient Housing in Southwest Bangladesh' at Reset Development in London. Additionally, she contributed to community-led design projects for sustainable neighbourhoods in London as an associate of Women’s Design Service (WDS) in 2010. 


Architect Ake Paul Blanchard holds several master's degrees: in Educational Coaching with a Business Administration option, in Educational Sciences and in Applied Psychology. He also holds a Doctorate in Management and Educational Policy from the University of California Southern Mexico. He is a teacher of Architecture at the School of Architecture of Abidjan 

Voninkazo RANDRIANARISOLO, DPLG architect and AVPU Urban Planner (Master II Professional Architecture, City and Urban Project) graduated from the ‘Ecole Nationale Supérieure d'Architecture de Marseille”, has built up a rich experience of two decades in the realization of a complete mission of establishments open to the public, housing, tertiary buildings and new or renovated business premises, as well as urban and port projects. She is involved in all phases of a project, from the sketch to the construction site including the Business Consultation File. The response to the territorial context is essential to the way it is designed and mobilized local resources in the implementation. Founding partner of EZAAKA, her work has been focused more particularly on the territories of the Indian Ocean (Mayotte and Madagascar) since 2019 while maintaining major interventions in mainland France.
